La Geria is the landscape that makes Lanzarote unique: kilometres of pits dug by hand into picón (black volcanic ash), each protected by a small crescent-shaped stone wall — a zoco — with a single vine inside. It's been farmed this way for almost 300 years, since that black soil keeps the air's humidity even with barely any rain.
The climb is gentle but steady, so you feel it more in the second half. There are several wineries along the road where you can stop to try volcanic malvasía before heading back to Puerto del Carmen.
Tip
Bring water — there's little shade along the way.

The ride to Arrecife
Flat, right by the sea, almost all on a bike lane. The one for going with kids, stopping for lunch and coming back without any drama.
The climb to Femés
The classic one. It's a real climb, but at the top you get the viewpoint with two islands in front of you. The one you tell everyone about.
